Chosing Time & Labor Saving
Tools
by Daryl Conner
Elevator tables, vacuum
systems, bathing systems and really effective dryers are expensive tools.
Many stylists put off purchasing these tools because they are afraid they’ll
make the wrong choice on a high-dollar item, or because they don’t think
they deserve these time and labor saving devices. This seminar will help you
learn why time and energy saving tools are an important part of your
grooming business and how to choose the devices that will work best for you.
The right tools not only save you time, but help you earn more money and
keep you safer and stronger for years to come.

Does your Doctor, Dentist,
Lawyer, Hairdresser give you free consultations? Not!! Are you giving away
your knowledge and skill? How do you sell yourself to the client in order to
charge what your services are really worth? Tired of spending an extra hour
de-matting a dog, or discussing diet? - afraid to charge for it? Come learn
how to train your clients to respect you and be happy to pay for your
services, leave with confidence and the tools you need to increase your
profit without increasing your workload.
Grooming – The Basic Poodle
by Ann Martin
Ann takes the poodle, the most
popular breed in many grooming salons, and goes through all the basics of
what makes the perfect pet trim and the perfectly pleased client! All of the
grooming areas – feet, face, tail, body, and legs – how to determine the
length of blade, length of tail to be shaved, how high to trim those feet,
plus (importantly) determining the length of hair to be left on the dog
based on its condition on arrival and the abilities of the client
(physically or financially). A good refresher or a great beginner class!
Hand-outs – of course.
Grooming – the Bedlington
Terrier
by Nancy Han
Certainly not your everyday
grooming here, Nancy can teach you how to properly groom these unusual long
legged terriers and create that professional look even if it is only one
Bedlington that you groom in your salon. Learn how to visualize the entire
trim, create the show dog top-line on a pet trim. How to get that face
looking the way it should. Then, of course, the ears and the tail – done to
perfection – and you have the whole dog put together well and a happy
client. Hand-outs available.
Grooming – The Kerry Blue
Terrier
by Nancy Han
The handsome and energetic
Kerry Blue Terrier! Truly a grooming challenge. The lines to be followed on
the head are the most important to start. Next, she moves on to the body
coat. Determining length here and on the legs to make the grooming complete.
Nancy is a real artist when it comes to her Kerry Blues. You will leave this
demo confident to groom the next Kerry Blue that walks into your salon
whether it is next week, next month, or next year. Hand-outs available.
Grooming – The Mutt (our mixed
breed companions)
by Suesan Watson
Grooming that little (or big)
shaggy mixed breed. This is where we make ourselves look like miracle
workers as we size up the pup (or bedraggled older dog) and determine what
direction the grooming should take based on the owners capabilities and the
size, shape, and condition of the canine on arrival. Then, of course, into
the mix we put any of the clients ideas of how they wish their dog to look.
Then, finally, we have to pull out all our creativity to please the client
and fit their lifestyle. What are the basic possibilities, how do you
choose, and what other factors should we be aware of….. Come and see Suesan
at her best with this groom!
Grooming – The Wheaten Terrier
by Ann Martin
Ah, the soft coated Wheaten
Terrier! Certainly not the easiest grooming job of the day… Dreaded by many
a groomer because of their energy and high maintenance! Ann Martin has
developed a real talent for grooming these wonderful dogs. Handling the dog,
de-mat or not to de-mat (considering the clients abilities here is a must),
determining the type of trim (puppy trim or show type), and the all
important execution of that trim in a timely fashion. Come and see a true
professional at work with this breed! Hand-outs available.

Say What........?!
by Nancy Ward
Sometimes it's not what you
say, but how you say it. Words can make or break you in more ways than one.
The words you use and how you use them set you apart as a knowledgeable
professional, instill confidence and trust in you with your clients, OR,
send them scurrying down the street in search of a new groomer! Leave with
the ability to improve your image just by changing your language.
Scissoring Back To Basics
by Daryl Conner
Once upon a time I had a
marvelous opportunity to have a hands-on lesson with one of the worlds top
stylists. I was asked, “You DO know how to scissor, don’t you?” Even though
I had years of experience I was plunged into an abyss of uncertainty. Did I
know how to scissor? Was I doing it right? If you are wondering about YOUR
scissoring skills, come to this class and get a brush up on the basics. Many
groomers have never had a bit of scissoring education. This is a back to
basics, no frills, bare bones educational hour. We’ll talk about choosing
scissors, and how to use them. You have chances every day to practice and
improve your skills; this is a great place to start! Bring some scissors and
we’ll practice!
Skin & Coat - What You Should

Here are some of the topics
she will discuss:
Skin composition & functions
Different types of hair
Shedding cycles
Improved bathing methods
Therapeutic approach to skin & coat problems
What is a spa treatment ?
Esthetic tips
As Monique has a tendency to
adapt her presentations to her audience, more time will be spent on those
areas of most interest to our attendees. There will be hand-outs and perhaps
a short written test at the end.
Subtle Changes... Outstanding
Results!
by Sue Zecco, NCMG + Jay Scruggs
Have you every sat ringside at
a grooming competition and thought to yourself “Why didn’t that dog win?” If
so, you must see this seminar. Sue Zecco & Jay Scruggs (two of the top
retired competitors, now judges) will select dogs that were groomed in
competition and go over the strong points of the grooming and where slight
changes might have made a difference. This demo could be the difference
between winning third or… placing a strong first for the competitor. This
will also show the audience how to set your salon apart with outstanding
grooming. A MUST SEE for everyone who wants to enhance their grooming
skills!
The First Grooming…
by Jarbas Godoy
"It is my first time and I
would love to STAY with my dog!!" At this presentation you will able to hear
the experience of someone that has run one of the top salons in the country
for over twenty years. At Jarbas' salon that request not only is handled
daily as most of those clients are retained for a long time. They just LIKE
what they see. Do not miss this opportunity to learn to profit from one of
the most common and misunderstood request for a service that we get from our
clients. Bring your questions.
